Importing Data

SurveyTrak is capable of receiving imported data.  You may use the built-in import function, or, there are a variety of tools available on the market to connect to the SurveyTrak database and import data directly into it.  The import function will allow user to import data that was exported using SurveyTrak's export function described above.

To import data using the built-in import function, simply select "Import Data Files" from the "Survey Point Management" Menu.  The Import Data window will be displayed.  Simply select the "Import" Button on this window to start the import process.

After you start the import window, the system will ask you if you are sure or do you want to cancel.  Select yes to continue.  The next window displayed is used to locate and select the "ExportList.Txt" file that was part of the exported data.  It is extremely important that this file is selected, otherwise the import will fail.

After the ExportList.Txt file is located and selected, you are prompted to empty your database.   The export function exports the entire database.  The import function imports the entire database from the exported files.  If you do not delete the records in your database, the duplicate records will cause the import function to fail.

Select "Yes" to empty your database prior to importing records.  If you are using the Enterprise Version, all other users must be out of the system.

The Import Data Window will display each table name as it is being imported.  Additionally, it will provide a message when the import is completed.

Importing Data Notes:

1.  Desktop Version.  If not already created, create an ODBC DSN with the DSN Name "SurveyTrakODBC", User ID of "SurveyTrak" and password of "SurveyTrak".  You can use this ODBC DSN to connect to the desktop database to import data.  We suggest that you contact your support personnel to assist you with this.

2.  Enterprise Version.  Contact your organization's Database Administrator (DBA) to discuss options for importing data into your database.  The DBA will be familiar with the tools available in your organization for data import.
