SurveyTrak has a built in Database Export Function that allows you to export your entire database to a set of files on your hard drive or network for the purpose of backing up your database, importing into other systems, or performing research using other applications. The export functionality has the capability to export the files to 8 different formats. Each database table, to include lookup tables, is exported to its own file. Currently, 16 database tables will be exported to 16 separate files. When exporting the files, you have the option to have field name headers included in the files or not. In addition, you have the option to have the date of the export as part of the filename in each file exported. To export the database files, simply select Export Data Files under the Survey Point Management Menu. This will display the Export Database Files Window. The first step is to select the file format in which you wish to export the files. The available formats are as follows: |

After selecting the format above, select if you want column name headers included in the file and if you want the date as part of the filename in each of the exported files. The default is that both are selected. Simply un-select these checkboxes if you do not desire these elements to be a part of the exported files. |

The next step is to select the directory where you want the files to be placed. It is recommended that you have created a directory beforehand prior to making the selection. Select the Directory Button to display the selection window and then select the directory to which you wish to export. First, select the drive. Second, select the directory. The selected directory at the bottom of the window will display the drive and directory selected. Once you have to correct drive and directory displayed in the window, select the Ok button. |

The final step is to select the export button. The time it will take will depend on the size of your database. The larger the database the longer it will take. The system will display a message once the export is completed. The system will export each database table into a separate file. In addition, it will export file titled "ExportList.Txt" which is a list of each table exported. The Export List file is needed when importing the data back into SurveyTrak or into the Reader Version. |
